Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 16 October 2026

Welcome to The Oakum. These Terms & Conditions explain what to expect when purchasing our products, commissioning bespoke work or booking a workshop through our website.

The Oakum is an independent creative business operated by Luisa Tatoli, trading as The Oakum, based at Unit 10, 778 High Road Leyton, London E10 6AE.

By placing an order or booking a workshop, you agree to these terms. Your statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.

Products & Orders

Our products are handmade, often using reclaimed, vintage or surplus materials. Small variations in colour, texture, pattern and finish are part of their character and will be described where relevant.

We make every effort to represent our products accurately, but colours may appear slightly different depending on your screen.

All prices are displayed in GBP (£). Delivery charges, where applicable, will be shown before checkout.

Orders are subject to availability and confirmation. If we cannot fulfil an order, we will contact you and refund any payment received.

Bespoke & Made-to-Order Items

Bespoke commissions and made-to-order products may require discussion of measurements, fabrics, design details and delivery times before an order is confirmed.

Production begins once the agreed specifications and payment arrangements have been confirmed.

Any changes requested after production has started may affect the price or completion date and must be agreed in advance.

Items made to your individual specifications or clearly personalised are generally not eligible for change-of-mind returns. This does not affect your statutory rights.

Delivery

We aim to dispatch ready-made products within the timeframe stated at checkout or in the product description.

For bespoke orders, estimated completion and delivery dates will be agreed individually.

We are not responsible for delays outside our reasonable control, but will keep you informed where possible. Your statutory delivery rights remain unaffected.

Workshops & Courses

Workshop descriptions include relevant information about the activity, duration, location, experience level and materials provided.

Places are limited and bookings are confirmed once payment has been received, unless otherwise agreed.

We reserve the right to make reasonable changes to workshop content, materials or facilitators where necessary, without substantially changing the experience advertised.

Participants are expected to follow reasonable safety instructions and treat others, equipment and venues with respect.

Workshop Cancellations

Cancellations and refunds are handled according to our Returns & Refunds Policy.

Generally:

  • Cancellations made at least 7 days before an eligible workshop receive a full refund.

  • Cancellations made less than 7 days before an eligible workshop are non-refundable, although transfers may be offered at our discretion.

  • Missed sessions are non-refundable unless required by law.

If The Oakum cancels a workshop, participants will receive a full refund or may choose an alternative available date.

If we reschedule a workshop and the new date is unsuitable, participants may request a refund.

For multi-week courses, any additional booking and cancellation conditions will be clearly stated before purchase.

These conditions do not limit any statutory cancellation rights that apply to a particular booking.

Payments

Payments are processed securely through the payment providers available at checkout.

For bespoke commissions, a deposit or full payment may be required before work begins. Any deposit amount and applicable cancellation conditions will be agreed before payment.

Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, the original content, designs, photographs, written materials and workshop resources on this website belong to The Oakum or their respective owners.

They may not be reproduced, distributed or used commercially without permission, except where permitted by law.

Liability

We take reasonable care in providing our products, workshops and services.

Participants are responsible for following safety guidance and informing us of any concerns about using tools or equipment.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory consumer rights.

Privacy

We handle personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Our website also uses cookies as explained in our Cookie Policy.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions occasionally. The version applicable to your purchase or booking will generally be the one in effect when it was made.
